The New Years Resolution Solution

New Year, New You! Make sure your new years resolution turns into a lifestyle of good health and happiness

New year, new you...

2016 was going to be your year right?

Finally you were going to take control of your diet, you were going to lose weight, get fit and regain the body and health you had in your twenties

Like lots of other guys I'm guessing every year you finally make the decision that you are going to get fit and healthy. You may even join a gym, start a new diet or dig out the old running shoes

But then it's the same old story, it goes great for a week or two and you even start to see some results! But slowly your motivation drops, you miss the odd session or its a bit too cold and dark to go for that run and the diet is impossible to maintain

It's much easier to crack open a beer and lie back on the sofa and sooner than you thought you're back at square one in no better shape and totally demotivated

THE PROBLEM

The problem is simple, the all or nothing mentality of new years resolutions and little to no guidance with what or how to actually get results means you're bound to fail.

Did you know that over 95% of self directed health and fitness plans fail?

Shocking but true and the 'normal' commercial gyms are letting you down.

Not only are they letting you down on not delivering results you'll also see every commercial gym selling the dream when really their only goal is to get you signed up in a contract and hope by February you aren't coming but are still paying.

It sounds cynical but this is how commercial gyms work, they have little to no interest in getting you real results that last and just want to make sure you sign that dotted line

THE SOLUTION

In order to finally create a change in your health and fitness you need a plan

Here are my top 5 tips to make sure your new years resolution doesn't fail

1. Don't Go All or Nothing

Firstly, you need to get out of the all or nothing mindset.

Yes it is fine to use the new year as a chance to focus and to start a fresh but stop thinking so short term.

Find something you can commit to and that is realistically something you can maintain long term.

If you go gentle to mental I guarantee you will not be successful in your health and fitness pursuits

2. Find a WHY

At BLS we often talk about 'why' and you need to figure out why you are doing this not just what you will do and how you will do it.

Think about why you actually want to transform your health.

Who are you dong it for?

Is it for your kids or your partner?

Or is it because in the last few years you've seen you energy drop and your confidence too and the man who looks back at you in the mirror isn't the man you used to be?

Once you have your why we can move onto the next step

3. Set Goals

You need to set specific goals!

Saying I just want to be a bit fitter is not good enough and it won't motivate you!

Trust me on this one that sort of goal is far too general and flakey and easy to give up on

Think about the outcome you want such as a certain amount of weight lost over a certain period of time i.e. 'I want to lose 1 stone in 12 weeks' and then think about the behaviours you need to follow.

Behaviours are the actions you can take daily to ensure you reach your goal and get the results you deserve, these are the things you can control.

Behaviours based on the example above of losing a stone in 12 weeks may include exercising 3 hours a week, drinking 3 liters of water a day, getting a minimum of 7 hours sleep a night, eating protein with every meal.

When you have a goal in mind don't keep it in your head make sure you write it down. Once you write it down you are now committed to reaching this goal and a lot more likely to achieve the outcome you want.

4. Follow a Proven Plan

At BLS we pride ourselves on getting real results for real guys.

We aren't talking gym freak obsessives here, we are talking normal guys with busy lives who understand the importance of there health and want to improve their lives for themselves and for their loved ones

Following a plan that isn't designed for someone like you is going to lead to failure. Be realistic and understand that you don't need to spend your life in the gym or need extreme diets to get results

What you need is a plan that will improve your habits, improve your lifestyle and will be maintainable.

Not one that requires you to train 7 times a week and eat nothing but chicken and broccoli...who really wants to do that?

And the truth is that it's just not necessary.

All the guys we work with get seriously great results with as little as 3 hours in the gym and with a nutrition plan that allows you to still have a beer and eat the foods you love.

5. Don't Go It Alone

Going it alone is tough.

It would be great to have all the willpower in the world and to be super motivated all the time but reality is that just doesn't happen especially when you have a million other things to do and time is precious.

Usually we start off super motivated and excited about the new health and fitness kick we have enrolled in, but slowly that motivation drops and it becomes harder and harder to maintain the changes you have made.

The result of this is usually feeling more demotivated than ever and just confirming the fact you can't change when really you can!

The reason we are so successful at BLS is not only the proven plan but the community of likeminded guys we have created.

We aren't just a gym that delivers results through our training and nutrition but a club that the guys love to be a part of.

This key ingredient is what keeps you motivated, accountable, and wanting more!

Imagine a place where health, fitness and fat loss is not only guaranteed but you enjoy every step of the way.

That is what BLS is!

THE WRAP UP

In order to make 2017 the start of a new healthier, happier you you need to make sure your resolution is not short sighted and has the long term in mind.

Using the new year as a new start is fine and I encourage you to do so but make sure this is the last time you say 'this year'.

The only way to make that a reality is by making a decision

Will you just let your health and fitness get continually worse, which will not only effect you physically but mentally too or will you make a decision to change?

And will you just go round in circles trying the same old thing that never seem to work?

They say the definition of madness is repeating the same thing and hoping for a different outcome!

Let's stop the madness and finally transform your health and fitness for good!
